Cougar
Cougars are top predators, preying on mammals as large as deer, especially in winter.  Unlike the sociable Grey Wolf, they lead solitary lives, except when young are being raised by their mother.

Cougars are rare animals in Saskatchewan.  They occur in forests, prairie valleys, and even agricultural areas.  Their numbers seem to be increasing too.

While no one knows for sure, an earlier estimate of 100 animals in the province now seems low.  Today, there may be twice as many Cougars in Saskatchewan.  Although still very uncommon, Cougars are large animals that attract attention.

In recent years there have been increasing reports of Cougars from areas near Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, the Qu’Appelle Valley, Estevan, Weyburn and the Duck Mountain area.
