Pheasent
Male pheasants are one of our most colourful birds, resplendent in iridescent green, copper, and other bright colours. Their exotic appearance is compatible with their origin, for Ring-necks are another introduced species, found originally in Asia.

Females are much plainer in appearance, being mostly brown in colour, but also having a long elegant tail. During the spring, they are attracted to the males who display and call loudly to advertise their presence. After mating, females raise the young without any assistance from the males.

Ring-necked Pheasants are even more affected by cold winters than the Gray Partridge. Pheasants are most numerous in the southern part of the province where snow accumulation is minimal.
