Spruce Grouse
The Spruce Grouse is a seldom-seen grouse of the northern forests. As its name suggests, it is found in spruce woods, as well as Jack Pine forests. During the winter, it feeds mainly on the needles of these conifers.

It is also called the "fool hen," a reference to its tameness and lack of fear of humans. This tameness, combined with a dependence on unspoiled coniferous woods, has led to a decline in numbers whenever human development alters the forest.
