Moose
Moose are the largest of Saskatchewan’s big game animals.  Found in forested regions, especially near water, the Moose has a small tail and a hump above its shoulders.

The male, called a bull, grows large antlers and stands 2 meters high.  Bulls can weigh 500 kilograms or more while the female is slightly smaller.  When a bull moose is searching for a mate, he can be heard through the trees making a sound like a combination of a moo and a grunt .

Most ungulates will run away when they see a human.  During mating season, however, a moose may attack if it feels threatened, using its antlers as weapons.  Hikers and hunters alike should use caution when they see a majestic Saskatchewan moose.
